Procedure
Overview
In this section, we will go over everything you need to know to create, view, edit, and manage goals for your business. You can leverage the data that Moneris collects to help create goals in two key areas: increasing sales and increasing the number of customers you serve. The Goals feature is meant to help you set goals for your business, and then use the dashboard to see how you're performing against your goals in the two key areas.
Types of goals
You are able to create and track two types of goals: Sales and Customers.
- Increase my sales - This goal is designed to help you boost your sales, either by a percentage or dollar figure that you can specify. The goal is then tracked against the specified percentage or dollar figure increase when the goal is created.
- Get more customers - This goal is designed to increase the amount of customers who purchase your goods and services, either by a percentage or number of new customers.
Note: There can be only one active goal for each goal type at a time. For example: if you have an Increase my sales goal active, you won’t be able to create another one to increase sales.
Moneris Insights - Access and Manage Goals
How do I access the Goals screen?
Use the Goals screen to create targets to acquire new customers or increase sales. There are a couple of methods of accessing goals:
- through the Goals Hub
- through the Your Goals sections on the Sales and Customers pages
To access the Goals Hub screen, follow these steps:
- From the app's main screen, tap/click the main menu.
- On the menu, tap/click Goals. The Goals screen appears.
From the Goals Hub, you can do the following tasks:
- Create new goals (Customers or Sales)
- View goal details (Customers or Sales)
- View your active goal
- View your previous goals
To access the Goals from within the Pages:
- From the app's main screen, tap/click the main menu.
- Click/tap the Page you wish to view (Sales or Customers).
- In the Page, scroll down to the Your Goals section at the bottom of the screen.
What can I do on the Goals Hub?
The Goals Hub is your place to view all of your goals, past and present. It provides you with in-depth information about your business is performing against the goals you have set.
You'll be able to:
- view active goals
- view previous goals
- view goal details
- edit and manage goals
- cancel and remove goals
When you initially begin using Moneris Insights and create your first goals, you probably won't notice a whole lot of activity on the screen. However, as you begin to use Moneris Insights and transactions are processed, you will begin to notice activity and to understand the data that's presented here.
How do I view active goals?
The Active goals area of the Goals Hub page displays the current active sales and customer goals that you have created, as well as your current progress.
For a deeper dive into the goals, click/tap Goal details. Refer to the How do I view goal details section further down this page for more information.
The goal date is displayed (e.g., "March 2025"), as well as the summary (e.g., "Get 8 more customers"). To the right of that is a progress bar which indicates how the business is performing against the goal. You can also see the number of days left to achieve the goal on the right side of the progress bar. In the example here, we have a monthly recurring goal of acquiring 8 more customers. For the month of March, there are 29 days remaining.
Note: If the goal is set on the last 7 days of any calendar month, it will be tracked against the next calendar month. For example, if a goal is created on 01/30/2025 the goal will track against February as it falls on the last 7 days of January.
How do I view previous goals?
The Previous goals area of the Goals Hub page displays previous sales and customer goals that you created, as well as your achievement status. Like the Active goals section above, it displays the goal date (e.g., "April 2023") and the summary (e.g., "Increase my sales by 3%"). To the right of that is a progress bar which indicates how the business performed against the goal, and a status message (e.g., "You did it, goal achieved").
For a deeper dive into the goals and the business' performance, click/tap Goal details. Refer to the How do I view goal details? section for more information.
How do I view goal details?
When you click the Goal details link on the Goals Hub, your screen displays the corresponding sales or customer goal details page. For more information about the data displayed on these pages, refer to the respective View customer goals and View sales goals sections in this article.
Understanding the difference between one-time and recurring goals
One-time and recurring goals contain some different information, as described here:
One-time goals contain:
- the time period in a pill at the top (e.g., February 2025)
- the name of the goal and your progress, and the number of days left to achieve the goal
- the Historical performance section, which displays your performance and when the goal was completed.
Recurring goals contain:
- the time period in a pill at the top (e.g., March 2025)
- the name of the goal, your progress, the number of days left to achieve the goal, and the "repeats monthly" label
- the Historical performance section, which displays your performance, the number of times the goal has been completed, and any streaks (e.g., the number of months in a row you've completed the goal)
- the Goal history section where you can see the goal's performance from the time the goal was created. The dark teal colour is the goal, and the lighter teal is the actual performance.
How do I manage and edit active goals?
Both Sales and Customer goals can be edited after they have been created. There are multiple methods of being able to access editing functionality:
- When viewing the goal itself, click/tap the Goal details link.
- On the mobile Goal detail page, tap the Manage goal button, then tap the Edit goal button.
- On the desktop Goal detail page, click the Edit goal button.
- Through the Goals Hub: click/tap Goals on the main menu on the left side of the page.
Types of edits you can make
You can perform the following edits to goals that you've created:
- change the dollar amount or percentage for a sales goal
- change the number of customers for a customers goal
- change a goal from one-time to recurring, or vice-versa.
To edit goals:
- Select the goal you wish to edit and access the Goal detail page as described in the list above.
- Make the changes to your goal.
- When you finish editing, click/tap the Continue button.
- Review the goal details in the Review screen.
- Once you are satisfied with your changes, click the Update goal button.
How do I cancel and remove goals?
Cancelling a goal stops tracking it but retains the progress up until the point it was cancelled. If you ever want to go back to review the goals you set over the course of the year, you would be able to do so. The data on the goal is stored in the front end for up to 1 year. Removing the goal completely removes it on the front and back ends.
Cancel a goal
If the customer or sales goals that you have created are no longer relevant and need to be cancelled, follow these steps to cancel a goal.
Note: The steps are slightly different on a mobile interface versus PC/laptop due to screen size constraints. Therefore, both sets of instructions are presented in the table below.

Remove a goal
If the customer or sales goals that you have created are no longer relevant and need to be completely removed, follow these steps to remove a goal.
Important: Removing a goal is permanent; a goal that has been removed cannot be retrieved. Therefore, approach this action carefully.

Moneris Insights - Customer Goals
How are new customers defined? Who does the system consider to be a new customer?
It is important to understand how Moneris Insights defines "new customers". Moneris Insights defines new customers by unique credit/debit cards being used to transact payments on a Moneris device. This means that the first time a credit or debit card is tapped, swiped, or inserted (or accessed through a digital wallet such as ApplePay or GooglePay), Moneris classifies that as a new customer.
Note: This means that if a customer who may have patronized your business in the past has been issued a new credit or debit card by their bank or card issuer and they are now using it at your business, they are also considered "new".
In addition, your merchant category (type of business) will also impact who is considered a "new customer". For some merchant categories, the definition of a new customer is dependent upon the number of transactions processed on a credit/debit card within a 6 or 18 month period, e.g., Optometrists fall into the category of 18 months, while restaurants and hotels see more frequent foot traffic, putting them into the category of 6 months. This means if a new card is used to purchase an item at these establishments outside of the 6 or 18 month period, they will be considered as new.
How do I create Customer Goals?
Use the Create a new goal screen to create a customer goal to increase your customer count month over month. To access the Goals screen, refer to the How do I access the Goals screen section for instructions.
You can choose to create recurring customer goals that will repeat month over month, or you can choose to create unique goals for individual months. The customer goal is auto-calculated by using the previous month's customer volume values and adding on the percentage or numeric value that you entered to create the goal value. This is applicable to both recurring and one-time customer acquisition goals.
Note: Merchants who are new to Moneris will not have data on which the system can calculate the previous month's customer counts. New merchants will be asked to set a baseline revenue value so that the goal can be created.
Note: You are able to create a goal for a month up to 7 days prior to the end of the month. For example, if you want to create a goal for January, you have up until January 23 to create January goals. If you attempt to create a goal on January 24, that goal will be applicable to February.
Note: Goals are monthly only; they can not be set up weekly, quarterly, or yearly.
Note: If the goal is set on the last 7 days of any calendar month, it will be tracked against the next calendar month. For example, if a goal is created on 01/30/2025, the goal will track against February as it falls on the last 7 days of January.
Follow the instructions below to create a customer goal.
- Access the Goals screen.
- Click/tap the Create a new goal button.
- In the Goal details section, click/tap the Select goal type drop-down menu and choose Get more customers, then click/tap the Continue button.
- Select how you wish to quantify the increase:
- If you wish to grow your customer base by a percentage, click/tap the Percentage option.
- If you wish to grow your customer base by quantity, click/tap the Number of customers option.
Once you make your selection, a list of preset percentages or numbers appears. You can enter in a customer percentage or number based on your selection in the previous step.
- Select whether or not you want to make this a recurring goal:
- If you wish to make this a recurring goal to repeat month over month, place a checkmark in the Repeat this goal each month checkbox.
- If you wish to make this a one-time goal, leave the box unchecked.
- Click/tap the Continue button.
- In the Review screen, review the goals that you've set. If you need to make corrections, click/tap the Back button.
- If you are satisfied with the goal, click/tap the Create Goal button.
When you see the "Goal created successfully" notification appear, the goal has been saved and is now listed in the Active goals section of the Goals screen.

Moneris Insights - Sales Goals
How are sales defined by Moneris Insights?
It is important to understand how Moneris Insights defines "sales":
- Moneris Insights defines sales by credit/debit cards/mobile wallets being used to transact payments on a Moneris device. Note: This means that if a customer pays with cash or a gift/loyalty card, their purchase is not captured by Moneris, so it will not be counted as a sale in Moneris Insights.
- The sales figures presented are gross sales only (voids and refunds are not included). Note: This means that you might see different sales amounts on different platforms (like Go Portal or Merchant Direct).
- The sales figures are gross sales from transactions, meaning that taxes and tips are included in the values being displayed on the screen.
- If your current batch has not been settled, the transactions within that batch will not appear in Moneris Insights.
