Overview
In this section, we will go over everything you need to know to create, view, edit, and manage goals for your business. You can leverage the data that Moneris collects to help create goals in two key areas: increasing sales and increasing the number of customers you serve. The Goals feature is meant to help you set goals for your business, and then use the dashboard to see how you're performing against your goals in the two key areas.
Types of goals
You are able to create and track two types of goals: Sales and Customers.
- Increase my sales - This goal is designed to help you boost your sales, either by a percentage or dollar figure that you can specify. Alternatively, Moneris also provides some default suggestions that you can use. The goal is then tracked against the specified percentage or dollar figure increase when the goal is created.
- Get more customers - This goal is designed to increase the amount of customers who purchase your goods and services, either by a percentage or number of new customers.

Moneris Insights - How New Customers are Defined
It is important to understand how Moneris Insights defines "new customers". Moneris Insights defines new customers by unique credit/debit cards being used to transact payments on a Moneris device. This means that the first time a credit or debit card is tapped, swiped, or inserted (or accessed through a digital wallet such as ApplePay or GooglePay), Moneris classifies that as a new customer.
Note: This means that if a customer who may have patronized your business in the past has been issued a new credit or debit card by their bank or card issuer and they are now using it at your business, they are also considered "new".
In addition, your merchant category (type of business) will also impact who is considered a "new customer". For some merchant categories, the definition of a new customer is dependant upon the number of transactions processed on a credit/debit card within a 6 or 18 month period, e.g., Optometrists fall into the category of 18 months, while restaurants and hotels see more frequent foot traffic, putting them into the category of 6 months. This means if a new card is used to purchase an item at these establishments outside of the 6 or 18 month period, they will be considered as new.
Moneris Insights - Explanation of the Interface
At the top of the screen, you can see the goal statement (e.g., Get 3% more customers), the timeframe (e.g., "June 2023"), as well as a progress bar indicating how many new customers have made purchases. You can also see how many days are left in the goal period (e.g., "25 days left"). If your goal has a repetition schedule, e.g., you created a repeating goal, you will also see that indicated by the "repeats monthly" label.
The Goal history section in the middle of the page shows a graphical representation of the new customers who transacted over the previous six months. The dark blue dot indicates the goal, and the lighter blue teal dot indicates the actual number of new customers.
The Historical performance section shows the number of times you have completed the goal successfully, the number of times you completed the goal successfully in a row (e.g., back-to-back months), and the total new customer count.
From this page, you are able to delete/cancel your goals able to edit the goal by clicking/tapping the Manage goal button. You are also able to edit the goal by clicking/tapping the Edit goal button.
Note: In the mobile app, there is only a Manage goal button. You must click this button to edit or cancel a goal. The desktop version of the app has both the Edit goal and Manage goal button side-by-side.
Create Customer Goals
Moneris Insights - Create Customer Goals

You can choose to create recurring customer goals that will repeat month over month, or you can choose to create unique goals for individual months. The customer goal is auto-calculated by using the previous month's customer volume values and adding on the percentage or numeric value that you entered to create the goal value. This is applicable to both recurring and one-time customer acquisition goals.
Note: Merchants who are new to Moneris will not have data on which the system can calculate the previous month's customer counts. New merchants will be asked to set a baseline revenue value so that the goal can be created.
Note: You are able to create a goal for a month up to 7 days prior to the end of the month. For example, if you want to create a goal for January, you have up until January 23 to create January goals. If you attempt to create a goal on January 24, that goal will be applicable to February.

Moneris Insights - How Sales are Defined
It is important to understand how Moneris Insights defines "sales". Moneris Insights defines sales by credit/debit cards/mobile wallets being used to transact payments on a Moneris device.
Note: This means that if a customer pays with cash or a gift/loyalty card, their purchase is not captured by Moneris, so it will not be counted as a sale in Moneris Insights.
Also be aware that sales figures are gross sales, meaning that taxes and tips are included in the values being displayed on the screen.
Moneris Insights - Explanation of the Interface
At the top of the screen, you can see the goal statement (e.g., Increase my sales by 3%), the timeframe (e.g., "June 2023"), as well as a progress bar indicating a sales dollar figure. You can also see how many days are left in the goal period (e.g., "25 days left"). If your goal has a repetition schedule, e.g., you created a repeating goal, you will also see that indicated by the "repeats monthly" label.
The Goal history section in the middle of the page shows a graphical representation of your business' sales from the previous six months. The dark blue dot indicates the goal, and the lighter blue teal dot indicates the actual sales figures.
The Historical performance section shows the number of times you have completed the goal successfully, the number of times you completed the goal successfully in a row (e.g., back-to-back months), and the total new customer count.
Note: The Historical performance is only available for repeating goals. If the goal is non-repeating, you will only see the historical performance table and the content within that table differentiates between non-repeating and repeating goals. Repeating goals show the number of times a goal was completed, completed in a row, and the additional revenue the goal generated for the business. Non-repeating goals show the additional revenue the goal generated for the business and the completion date.
