Moneris Go Retail - Managing Categories

Learn how to create and manage categories and sub-categories.

Overview

This section describes how to add and manage your categories in Moneris Go Retail.

Your products will be organized under categories on the Point of sale(Purchase) page. Think about the products you sell and what categories they fall into. You may want to write out the categories or record them in a spreadsheet.

Begin by creating your categories and subcategories now to make it easier to assign categories when you add your products.

Note: You can also assign categories and change categories after adding products.

Add a category

Add a category

Follow these steps to add a category.

  1. On the main menu, click Inventory.
  1. On the Inventory page, click Categories to view the Category list.
  1. Under Category list, click Add category .
  1. The “Add category” panel appears. In the Name field, enter the name of the category you want to create and click Save.
  1. The Category list reappears showing the new category. Continue adding new categories as needed.

Add a subcategory

Add a subcategory

If most or many of your products fall into a specific category, think about how you might look for those products. What subcategories would be useful to find products quickly when a customer is ready to make a purchase? You may want to write out the subcategories or record them in a spreadsheet.

Follow these steps to add a subcategory.

  1. In the Category list, hold your mouse over the category under which you want to create a subcategory.
  2. At the end of the row, click the options icon.
  3. On the list of options, click Add subcategory.
  1. The “Add subcategory” panel appears. In the Name field, enter the name of the subcategory you want to create and click Save.

  1. The Categories page reappears showing the new subcategory in the Category list. You may have to click the arrow at the left of the category to expand it to see the subcategories.
  2. Continue adding more subcategories as needed.
  1. To create a subcategory under another subcategory, hold your mouse over the subcategory, click on the options icon, and click Add subcategory.

Tip: You can create up to 9 levels of subcategories for a total of 10 levels including the top level.

Rename a category

Rename a category

Follow these steps to rename a category or subcategory.

  1. In the "Category list," hold your mouse over the category or subcategory you want to rename.
  2. At the end of the row, click the options icon.
  3. On the list of options, click Rename category/subcategory.
  1. The “Rename category/subcategory” panel appears. In the Name field, enter the new name and click Save.
  2. The Categories page reappears showing the new name of the category or subcategory in the Category list. You may have to click the arrow at the left of the category to expand it to see the subcategories.

Reorder categories

Reorder categories

Follow these steps to reorder categories. This will change the order in which they appear on the New transaction page.

  1. Under Category list, click Reorder.
  1. A three-line ☰ icon appears in front of each category. Click any category and drag it to a new position within the same level in the hierarchy of categories. A plus (+) sign appears next to the mouse pointer.

Note: You can only move a category within the same level. You cannot move it to a different level either up or down.

  1. Release the mouse when the category is in the position where you want it.
  1. Click Done. The three-line icons disappear. The Category list reappears with the categories in the new order.

Delete a category

Delete a category

Follow these steps to delete a category or subcategory.

When you delete a category or subcategory:

  • any subcategories below it will also be deleted;
  • the products assigned to it, or to the subcategories below it, will be moved up to the next available level.
  1. In the "Category list," hold your mouse over the category or subcategory you want to delete.
  2. At the end of the row, click the options icon.
  3. On the list of options, click Delete.
  1. At the confirmation prompt:
