Moneris Go Restaurant - The Kitchen Display System (KDS) App
Table of Contents
Overview
When you take orders on the Moneris Go Restaurant POS app, the Kitchen Display System (KDS) app, which runs on a separate iPad, displays the orders so that the kitchen staff can prepare food and beverages for your customers. Orders and modifications are displayed in real time to provide immediate updates to the kitchen staff.
In this section, you will learn how to:
- Optimize your iPad for the KDS app
- Sign into the KDS app
- Configure KDS settings
- Understand the elements on the KDS screen
- View orders
- Complete orders
- Sign out of the KDS app
Before you begin
Before you begin using the Kitchen Display System (KDS) app, please note:
- The KDS app is an optional module and requires an additional fee. (Please contact our sales team.) Once you sign up for the KDS app, you can install the app on as many tablets as you wish. For example, if you have three kitchen stations (grill, salad, and dessert), each station would have its own tablet running the KDS app.
- Each KDS tablet can display only one kitchen station at a time. You cannot have two KDS tablets logged into the same kitchen station at the same time.
- The KDS app uses the Wi-Fi network in your establishment to communicate with other applications like the Moneris Go Restaurant POS app.
Important considerations
Please note the following important information:
- The tablets you are using for the KDS app must be plugged into a power source at all times and should be configured so that they do not go to sleep or allow other apps/settings to disrupt their ability to display orders. For instructions, refer to Optimizing your iPad for the KDS app.
- The KDS app keeps track of all orders using three tabs: Active, Modified, and Completed. These tabs are updated in real time as orders are received, modified, completed, and sent out to the guests.
- If you have multiple kitchens and multiple displays, you can view only one kitchen at a time per display. If you need to view another kitchen from a tablet that is already assigned to a kitchen, you will need to sign out and sign in again to select a different kitchen.

Sign into the KDS app
Sign into the KDS app
Similar to the process to sign in to the Moneris Go Restaurant POS app on the tablet, the KDS app also requires users to login with their username and PIN.
To install and start the app, refer to Installing Moneris Go Restaurant applications.
IMPORTANT: Any orders sent to the kitchen before you sign into the KDS app will not be visible. You will only see orders that get sent after sign-in has occurred. Therefore, it is important that you sign in before service starts for the day, and that you remain signed in until the end of service so that orders don't get lost.

Get familiar with the KDS screen and order tiles
Refer to the image and the table below to familiarize yourself with the various on-screen elements.
Number | Description |
1 | Kitchen name – This indicates the name of the kitchen that the KDS app is currently logged into. |
2 | Order tabs – These tabs enable you to view active orders, orders that have been modified from the original, and completed orders. Each time a new order is received, it appears in the Active tab. Each time an order is modified in the POS app (because a customer has added to their original order or changed their minds about something), a copy of it appears in the Modified tab (and the modified order stays in the Active tab as well while it is being prepared). As orders are completed and sent out and marked as complete, they appear in the Completed tab. |
3 | Order channels – These tabs indicate order channels such as takeout and online. |
4 | Settings – Tap Settings to access the KDS settings. Refer to Configure KDS settings for more information. |
5 | Refresh – Tap this option to refresh the kitchen display, to see new orders received, and to clear the screen of completed orders. |
6 | Back to front – Tap this button when the order tiles exceed the number of columns you have configured to display on the screen. For example, if your display is configured to show 3 columns of tiles, and you have orders that fill 7 columns, and you have swiped right to see column 5, tap the Back to front button to return to columns 1, 2, and 3. |
7 | Order tiles – These tiles display the items ordered by customers. Refer to the elements of the order tiles section below to understand the information displayed on the tiles. |
Elements of the order tiles The order tile displays the timer, order number/ID, the specific menu items and quantities, and any modifiers. Items makred complete are crossed out. Items removed from the order are also crossed out. Modified orders appear with a yellow background.
Number | Description | ![]() |
1 | Timer - The timer indicates how much time has passed, in minutes and seconds, since the order was received. The color of the timer bar changes from green to orange to red based on your settings.
2 | Order number - The order number is incremented each time an order is taken for the day. Each day, orders restart at 001.
3 | Quantity - The quantity ordered for each item.
4 | Completed item - A completed item appears crossed out once it has been marked as completed. Note the quantity is greater than zero.
6 | Modifications - If an incorrect item was removed from the order, it will be crossed out. Note that the item is replaced by the same item with a quantity of zero. The replacement item appears in a separate tile, with the same order number. |

View orders in the KDS app
The KDS app receives the orders placed in the Go Restaurant POS app. The KDS screen goes dark for a moment as orders are received, then a notification appears at the top of the screen and the order appears as a tile on the screen. You can view orders by channel or by status. These are controlled by tabs on the left side of the screen, or at the top of the screen respectively.
Note: The order number appears at the top of each order received from the Go Restaurant app. The same order number is printed on kitchen tickets and customer receipts.
