    Keeping Admin Cards and manager passwords safe

    What are best practices for managing passwords/passcodes and Admin Cards?

    • Admin Cards should be kept in a safe and secure place, and access should be limited.
    • Passwords/passcodes should be changed regularly, especially after any change in staff.
    • Passwords/passcodes should be unique. Do not use sequential numbers and do not repeat digits. Example: 12345 or 00000.

     

    Protecting your business from refund fraud

    How can you protect your business from refund fraud?

    • Always process a refund on the same card used for the original transaction.
    • Avoid splitting a refund into smaller amounts. Instead, contact Moneris for further assistance.
    • Perform daily audits to match refunds with the original purchases.

     

    How can you protect your business from purchase correction fraud?

    • Always process a purchase correction on the same card used for the original purchase.
    • Purchase correction should be completed for the full value of the transaction before settling the batch.

     

    How can you protect your business from Interac fraud?

    • You're responsible for all risks associated with refunds.
    • To reduce some of these risks, Moneris recommends a $0 Interac refund limit. Alternatively, you could have:
      • An exchange-only policy
      • An in-store credit policy
      • A cash refund policy
    • If you have to do a refund or purchase correction on an Interac Card, the cardholder must be present with their card.

     

    How can you protect your device(s) from refund and purchase correction fraud?

    • Restrict access to the device(s).
    • Limit access so that only Supervisors have the ability to refund or void transactions.
